Formed in 1999 in Uppsala, Sweden, The Search originally rocked the indie scene under the name The Silverslut before evolving into what we know today. With six EPs behind them, they released their debut album as The Search in 2004. Led by Razmig Tekeyan, the band’s sound gives off serious 80s post-punk vibes mixed with a modern twist, and their loyal following proves they’ve got something special. Currently, with 1,841 monthly listeners on Spotify, their reach is quite impressive for an indie act.
Their latest track, "Silhouette" hits that sweet spot between nostalgic and fresh. It’s got this irresistible 80s dance vibe layered with guitars that are straight out of The Smiths’ playbook. The vocals? Raw, perfectly fitting for the genre, and delivered with just the right touch of emotion and edge. The chorus has that larger-than-life feel, almost The Killers-esque, and it really elevates the song.
On a personal note, I’ve got to say, I’m obsessed with The Cure and The Smiths, so The Search is completely in my wheelhouse. I’ve already added the song to my "80's Vibes" playlist, and I can’t wait to blast it while driving solo. There’s something about rocking out to a song like this in your car, windows down, no distractions, just pure vibe. Highly recommend giving this one a spin if you’re into that sweet spot between familiar and fresh.
