Osiris Lights, a progressive/alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia, has been busy in 2024 redefining their sound with their self-produced concept EP Triptych. The second track, Selah, really highlights how far they’ve come. It’s a more laid-back, reflective song that shows a different side of their style, and honestly, it's a great change of pace.
Selah dials down the intensity, opting for smooth melodies that hit just right. It’s a beautiful track, proving they don’t need big, heavy riffs to grab your attention. You’ll feel the emotion in every note, and it leaves a lasting impression even if you’re hearing them for the first time.
I’ve always believed that the best rock bands have powerful ballads—it’s a testament to their songwriting and how they can harmoniously execute a softer, pop-esque sound, like Paramore’s "The Only Exception" or Linkin Park’s "Shadow of the Day." Selah feels like it could be Osiris Lights’ defining ballad. If you’re into strong ballads from solid rock bands, go give Selah a listen. Trust me, it’s one for the playlist.
